Death Race 2000 is a 1975 movie that features a fictional cross-country road race in the year 2000. The racers are driving cars with weapons attached to them. The movie was followed by four sequels and a reboot in 2008.

It was produced by Roger Corman and directed by Paul Bartel and released on September 27, 1975. It stars David Carradine as Frankenstein, Sylvester Stallone as Machine Gun Joe Viterbo, Simone Griffiths as Evelyn “Evie” Lincoln, Terry Moore as Jane Van Ryan, Mary Woronov as Calamity Jane and Roberta Collins as Minerva Washington.

Death Race 2000 is based on the short story “The Racer” written by Ib Melchior in 1967.
