The Newport name was first used on a 1940 show vehicle, of which five were manufactured. The Newport continued the reputation for being a large, comfortable, and luxurious coupe and sedan. Bloat was the most extreme styling element pushed by Chrysler. The car was even referred to as having a “Fuselage Design,” comparing it to an aircraft’s rounded cross-section.
The car comes with 383 2V V8 and 529 Nm / 390 lb-ft of torque and a three-speed manual transmission. These two components have helped this car reach a speed of 190 km/h (120 mph). The Newport was developed on the basis of the Chrysler New Yorker (the engine is allegedly from a 1967 Chrysler New Yorker.), and Ralph Roberts, the designer of LeBaron / Briggs Manufacturing Company, created it.
