The Highwaymen is a 2004 American crime drama film directed by Bob Rafelson and starring Woody Harrelson, Kevin Costner, and Kathy Bates. The screenplay is written by John Fusco, who also wrote the novel of the same name on which the film is based.
The story is about two retired Texas Rangers who come out of retirement to hunt down a pair of outlaws who have killed several police officers in order to keep from being captured themselves.
Rennie’s wife is stalked and killed by a psychopathic murderer, Fargo. The killer may be in a wheelchair but he is able to modify his 1972 Cadillac Eldorado to drive around and carry out his bloody exploits. Rennie takes it upon himself to track down James Fargo and make him suffer as he made his wife suffer. What ensues is a thrilling pursuit—a high-speed car chase which builds up to the ultimate showdown.
