The Gumball Rally is a 1976 movie about a group of drivers who take part in an international road race. The drivers are given points for speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, and other illegal activities.

The Gumball Rally was filmed in 1975 and released in 1976. It was directed by James Frawley, written by Dan Gordon, and starred Anthony Hopkins and Ben Johnson.

Yates’ Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash inspired another movie in 1976. This one features a race from Times Square to the Pacific ocean. Apart from the best muscle cars of the time, Gumball Rally also features an AC Cobra, Chevrolet Corvette, and even a ‘69 Porsche 911 Targa. The Gumball Rally was born out of automotive enthusiasts’ frustration and rebellion against the nationwide 55mph speed limit. For this reason, the rally cars have neither a catalytic converter, nor a law-abiding driver.
