Based on Hans Ruesch’s book about the life of German race car driver, Rudolf Caracciola, The Racer, this is a film about a determined man named Gino Borgesa, who is set on fulfilling his dreams of winning every race around the world. He does achieve his dream, but leaves a trail of betrayal and disappointment in his rush to get to the top, where he finds he stands alone. His lover, Nicole, is alarmed at his unhealthy competitiveness and later, disloyalty to his fellow- racers, and threatens to leave him. Only when his inevitable descent comes knocking at his door, does Gino realise what he had done. But is it already too late for him to return to his former life?
