College student Lewis Thomas and his brother, Fuller, decide to make a cross-country road trip in his 1971 Chrysler Newport, so he can drive home with his girlfriend for the summer. In the mood for a practical joke, Fuller convinces Lewis to talk to a truck driver nicknamed ‘Rusty Nail’ on his CB radio. Lewis pretends to be a woman and invites him to meet at a motel in Wyoming, where they planned to bunk for the night. They give him the wrong room number but the next morning, when the man in that room is found murdered, the Sheriff asks them to leave town. But now they have a psycho killer stalker.
